Good Saturday Morning Friends,

Just Stopped by to Swap Howdies !!

Hope all is well in your little corner.

We are finally getting the snow I have been

hoping and praying for.

I Love the way it looks, so Fresh & Clean.

It is also our source of income at this

time of the year,

so we are Very Happy Campers.

We are only expected to get five inches

and a warming trend tomorrow so I don't think it

will last long ..... we will take it and be Glad.

Not sure where I was or what I was doing in

1994 -1995 ................

Oh yeah I was a wife, a Mother raising her boys,

keeper of the Cabin and I was working part-time. lol

Anyway I was unaware of the Christy series

enjoyed by many on TV.

I went to the Library last week looking

for a few books to help pass the long January days.

I happened to walk by the movies,

and the cover photo caught my eye ....

the description on the back sold me.

This gentle and heartfelt drama was wholesome and

substantive television for families.

Based on the cherished book by Catherine Marshall detailing her

mother's time in the Tennessee Smoky Mountains in 1912,

it is the story of a young and exuberant city girl who comes to teach

in poverty-stricken Cutter Gap and the

manner in which it changed her life forever.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

The complete series comes in a

four disk double sided DVD pack.

It has provided us with hours of great period TV watching.

I never look at the movies at the Library,

(I will now)... so this to me was meant to be. :-)

This snowy Saturday is a perfect day to

finish up our last disk .... although I really

hate to see it end.

If you are like me and missed this series .... I

highly recommend it. It is also listed on netflix

but they are on individual disks so the library

is your best bet for the whole series.
If any of you have suggestions for
other great movies or series I'd love to hear them.

Happy ThanksGiving ~~

The day is cold and gray .... but as always its toasty warm

and cozy here inside the Cabin.

I'm up early today doing my regular chores,

just now sitting with a cup of tea before

I start my holiday prep.

My List is made and I will check off each task as

I finish on my way towards Thanksgiving Day.

The crowd has grown bigger, and

our solutions is to turn the family room

into a tavern room with three separate tables.

We may not be able to sit at one

table but at least we are all in the same room,

as we share grace and this traditional meal.

Yesterday I made table arrangements for each

table, and created my turkey butters.

(Jenn as you requested )

Today I will bake what I can in advance,

pumpkin pie, chocolate chip bars, cheese cake,

and chocolate cake.

I plan on chopping vegetables

for my stuffing , and will choose napkins

and dishes for each table.

I so Love this Holiday ...

(no gifts involved and lots of baking)

Apple Pie made & baked

the day of.

I know how Blessed we are

and I Thank God each and every day,

for our Friends, Family, Food, Home

our Health, and our Country.

Hello All ~~ I hope all is well with you & yours

If you take the time to read my post today I hope you

will forgive my standing on the proverbial soap box.

As a small business owner and the wife of a small

business owner this is a near and dear subject to me

Our friends and family all own their own business

Carpenter, Electrician, Mason, Mechanic, Lawn Service,

Tree Surgeon, Heating & Cooling, Welder, Plumber,

Site Contractor .... Hairdresser, Antique Dealer,

Nursery & Garden Center, Country Shop

the list goes on & on .......

just about everyone I know is struggling.

We are Blessed in many ways but finding

times harder than we have ever had to face.

I received the following in an email, plus I added

a few of my own thoughts ~~~~~~~~~~~~

Christmas 2011 -- Birth of a New Tradition

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As the holidays approach, the giant Asian factories

are kicking into high gear to provide Americans

with monstrous piles of cheaply produced goods --

merchandise that has been produced

at the expense of American labor.
This year will be different.

This year Americans will give the gift of genuine

concern for other Americans. There is no longer an

excuse that, at gift giving time, nothing can be

found that is produced by American hands. Yes there is!

It's time to think outside the box, people.

Who says a gift needs to fit in a shirt box,

wrapped in Chinese produced wrapping paper?
Everyone -- yes EVERYONE gets their hair cut.

How about gift certificates from your

local American hair salon or barber?

Gym membership? It's appropriate for all ages who

are thinking about some health improvement.

Who wouldn't appreciate getting their car detailed?

Small, American owned detail shops and

car washes would love to sell you a gift certificate

or a book of gift certificates.

Are you one of those extravagant givers who

think nothing of plonking down the

Benjamin's on a Chinese made flat-screen?

Perhaps that grateful gift receiver would like

his driveway sealed, or lawn mowed for

the summer, or driveway plowed

all winter, or games at the local golf course.

There are a bazillion owner-run restaurants --

all offering gift certificates.

And, if your intended isn't the fancy eatery sort,

what about a half dozen breakfasts at the local breakfast joint.

Remember, folks this isn't about big National chains --

this is about supporting your home town Americans

with their financial lives on the line to keep their doors open.

How many people couldn't use an oil change for their car, truck or
motorcycle, done at a shop run by the American working guy?

My computer could use a tune-up, and I KNOW

I can find some young guy who is struggling to

get his repair business up and running.

Thinking about a heartfelt gift for mom?

Mom would LOVE the services of a local

cleaning lady for a day. Or a gift certificate

to a local nursery for her Spring Flowers.

How about a few meals delivered

by a local cater.

OK, you were looking for something more personal.

Local crafts people spin their own wool and knit them into scarves,

hats & gloves.

They make jewelry, and pottery and

beautiful wooden boxes, samplers & game boards,

dolls, cards, & Santa's.

Plan your holiday outings at local, owner

operated restaurants and leave your server a nice tip.

And, how about going out to see a play or

ballet at your hometown theater.

Books are another wonderful gift ..... plenty are

printer right here in America along with magazines

& calenders or give a gift certificates

to a local Book Store.

Musicians need love too, so find a venue showcasing local bands.

Go see a local comedian and share a few laughs

with your friends.

Honestly, people, do you REALLY need to buy

another ten thousand Chinese lights for the house?

When you buy a five dollar string of light,

about fifty cents stays in the community.

If you have those kinds of bucks to burn,

leave the mailman, trash guy or babysitter a nice BIG tip.

You see, Christmas is no longer about draining

American pockets so that China can build another glittering city.

Christmas is now about caring about the US,

encouraging American small businesses to keep

plugging away to follow their dreams.

And, when we care about other Americans,

we care about our communities,

and the benefits come back to us in ways we couldn't imagine.

THIS is the new American Christmas tradition.

Forward this to everyone on your mailing list -- post it to discussion
groups -- throw up a post on Craigslist

in the Rants and Raves section in your city --

send it to the editor of your local paper

and radio stations, and TV news departments.

We all need to Help!

Signs of the Season

The Signs of the Season are all around us.

The trees still have some color, the grass is

still green ... littered with dry leaves,

the bittersweet is every where you look,

and smoke rises from both our chimneys.

Can't say it enough ~~~~ I Love the Fall !!

We take time from our chores for some Neat TreaTs

Hot Chocolate & Cider Donuts.

Donuts are just outside of the camera view

but believe me they were Yummmy !!

Thank You PoP, you work so hard

to keep us warm.

In my opinion nothing is warmer than

the heat generated from a wood fire.

Plus the wonderful ambiance a

crackling fire brings to the Cabin.

I am Blessed !!

Favorite Time of the Year

Happy Fall .... Happy First Day of October !!

It's gloomy & chilly here in the woods ...... cleaning

out the wood stove and carrying some wood up to

the back deck, is on the agenda this day.

We know soon we will be lighting a fire

early mornings & late evenings to

keep away the chill.

DH has been splitting wood for weeks ....

thinks we should be all set for winter.

The cabin has had fall decorations out since my last

trip to PA. We came back with a truck load ... unfortunately

I have had to rid so many .... must be due to all the

rain we have had.

Some of the Best didn't last three days past

my setting them around outside. :-(

We have had our share of company these last few

weeks .... a Surprise visit from

my brother, my nephew &

my great nephew who live in

Long Island & upstate NY

so much Fun to sit, catch up and laugh

around the kitchen table with Family.

Good for the Soul !! I am Blessed !!

Next was a visit from Janet & Don

of winterwillowprimitives in VA

Janet and I have been Blog friends for

the past four years and it was so

nice to finally meet in person.

She is so sweet and we enjoyed the visit greatly.

She gifted me with one of her sweet pinkeeps I love it to

pieces ...... she also brought goodies for me that she sells

on her website, one was a small redware plate that

I just can't seem to capture in a photo.

All of it was Wonderful ... the Gifts made

from Heart & Hand are Treasured.

This week my Dear friend Anita

(aunt daisy's in EmmausPA)

came to spend a few days at the cabin .... just pure

"Girl Time" and boy how we both needed it.
The weather was gloomy outside but the

laughs & chatter brightened the inside.

Its amazing how much talking two Friends

can do and really not say much, at least

that's what we told Paul.

We only paused to eat & drink when

necessary lol

Amy my Dear you were missed ..... (((hugs)))

Anita also came bearing gifts ..... I'm getting totally spoiled,

and how my friends know me ..... I received the new Judy

Condon Book "Holidays at a Country Home" which

can be purchase at her store. I haven't put it down yet.

She also made me a Sweet bag of Dried Lemons

she knows my love of "naturals" and boy do

they fit the bill ... look great & smell wonderful.

a trip through aunt daisy's will net

you things you wont see anywhere else. !!!

I promise you will love it.

Its the special time of year ...

time for candles, fires,

good hearty meals, apple crisp,

pumpkin bread & pumpkin fudge.

Colored leaves, brisk walks, lap blankets

cozy socks, and extra hugs.

Good Bye Irene !!!

She came in with lots of rain, and fierce wind.

We lost our power but thankfully hubby had the

generator up, and going in no time at all.

This keeps the freezer & refrigerator going

and we can use our well water.

We were well prepared with all

the notice we received.

Also all the battery candles I have

made each and every room

look so warm & cozy.

Our power has now been restored.

Over seven hundred thousand still

with out power in CT.

Untold amounts up and down the East Coast.

Keeping all the crews out there

working in my prayers.

In the daylight we assessed the damage here

on the property and down our road.

We did loose a few trees in the yard, and

had a few down across the road

but all in all no serious damage.

We are Thankful and considering

ourselves very Lucky & Blessed.

Same with all our Family that is scattered

all over CT, NY, and NJ.

Three Little PumPkins ~~

Yup got my first real PumPkins of the Season

last Saturday ... right down the road a piece.

Normally cant find any in CT this early but

our neighbor/farm stand guy Tom got them in just for

me ...... almost cause an accident as I screamed

STOP to hubby when I spotted them.

We usually head to PA early Sept

to find my first pickins but boy am I happy

to see these cute little orange orbs

sittin in my kitchen.

I know alot of you aren't ready

yet .... but I so Love the Fall and all

that comes with it.

Today we went down for some fresh picked corn

and he gifted me with this Beauty .....

(the only one he had)

Can ya believe the size of the stalk,

and look at the deep grooves, and I love the tall shape.

I was Giddy I was so Excited, he was way too busy to

give me the scoop ( variety & where it was grown).

As soon as I can I will bring him down some home-made

TreaT .... Thank him again, and get the story.

I am counting down the days for a camping

trip to PA. Fingers crossed I can make the

Fall Open Houses at my favorite shops.

Visit with my Friends, Purchase some Treasures

Its such a Beautiful Time of Year ... Lush & Green,

we are just about cocooned here at the Cabin.

A wall of Green surrounds us and one

could almost think we are here alone

in the woods in the 1700's.

Some days we only see each other

God's creatures that wander

by looking for food & water.

We are just back from five days in my other favorite part of

the country ..... a Wonderful visit to PA

smack dab in Amish Country.

We stopped in to see my Favorite

Shop Owners who also happen to be my Friends.

Go there Guys you will Love them & their Stores.

"Change Your Seat"

The American Heritage Shop

This is the Season where we spend lots of time in our homes.

We here in the North East have been dealing with

extreme cold, record snow and some ice.

This has limited my outings .. even some

ventures to walk out in the yard or into the woods.

In some cases it can bring forth

the "Dreaded Cabin Fever" earlier than usual.

I'm not experiencing cabin fever yet.

I love being home, its warm, its cozy I have a supply

of good books and projects and I can always find

some thing to putter with.
It's also a great time of year to catch up with
friends & family by phone, letter or computer.

My problem is that I center on the few things I'm

not thrilled about in the cabin ..... these are things

I cant change ... due to hubby's needs & likes or

they are structural, or cost prohibited.

Either way they are here to stay.

I find when I'm home this much, I start to obsess about

these things and I'm not a happy camper.

A wise man once said ......

" Change your Seat"

I remember it like it was yesterday .... I remember laughing

like what the heck will that do ..... but over the years as

simple as it sounds I find it works.

If you sit in the same seat each day as most of

us do ... you have the same view.

I have my spot in each and every room in the cabin.

I also have my spot in each

and every friend & relatives home.

Come on ..... you probably all do .... Right ??
It cant just be me ........... Could it ?? :-)

Well anyways when you change your seat .... you get a whole

different view and perspective of your room.

And sometimes you are pleasantly surprised by what you see.

At any rate it stops you from staring at the

thing or things that are bugging you.

In most of my room, the furniture really cant be moved

but I can choose to sit somewhere different, and I do.

Human beings, by changing the inner attitudes of their minds,

can change the outer aspects of their lives.

So till I can make a few road trips .... get back out to

the shop .... or the weather

permits me to sit on the porch, or deck or check

out the yard ..... my plan is the keep changing my seat.

Afternoon All ~~ Came to change my Blog

over from Christmas to Hearts ......

Found out I don't have as many Hearts

as I thought I did.

As we speak we are Waxing up the Snow Boards,

Skies, Sleds, and the Shovels here in CT.

We have another foot of snow coming our way.

Sorry Miss Judy !!

I say woo hoo but that's cause I get to stay in

and watch the snow fall from the comforts of the cabin.

Love when the trees are heavy with snow and the

ground is covered in white. I'll place another log in

the wood stove, a few in the hearth .... light the

candles, and if its the proper time of day,

pour a glass of wine.

Life is good .........................

The snow (plowing & sanding) also allows us

to pay our mortgage & eat during the winter

so hip hip hooray !!

The cold as finally set in ..... we wait with anticipation

for the snow to come ... for nothings says

Christmas as a blanket of white.

The tree is up, the greens in place and
the cabin smells delightful .
Smells, Sights, Sounds
a magical time of year.

Most of the shopping is done .... so now

its on to wrapping & baking two of my favorite

things to do no matter what time of year.

I was very lucky my DH had taken out a two year
warranty on my camera so I was covered
for the last mishap ... they actually found
they couldn't fix it, so
I will received a brand new camera.
This was all done at

Best Buy with the Geek Squad.

I'm most Happy. :-)

I cant believe how many times I

have reach for the camera to remember

Dang I don't have it.
I don't claim to have any talent in the photography
department but I do tend to see ... all around me

things that make me think Wow, how Neat
or how Beautiful what a great photo that would make.
Plus how can anyone have Sweet Grands and
not think ..... I must have that shot. lol
I have been totally lost with out it.

We are Blessed again this year to gather

at the Cabin for our

Thanksgiving Feast along with those we love.

I have much to be Thankful for again this year, so

I will personally and quietly gives thanks for each

new day and the joy it holds, my wonderful memories

that reach back as far as I can remember.

My family & friends, the bounty that graces our table

each & every day of the year.

The newest members to join our Family this year .....

either by marriage or birth. Our continued good health,

and the fact that this will be our 27th year

snug as bug here at the Cabin cooking & serving this

I was gently reminded that Halloween

was over and I should be thinking

Thanksgiving with a nod to Christmas

Thanks Miss Judy :-) Well I now find my

self Betwixt and Between ....

My whole house looks upside down, oh

and I broke Another camera ... I tripped

and fell with the camera in hand a big No-No

this has got to be my third digital in less than

two years .... yikes I cant live without a camera

but DH may make me .... lol

Fingers crossed he took out the insurance

on this one when he purchased it four months ago.

I think they have a special Rider for Klutz's.

Thankfully my sister lives two roads away,

and I went and borrowed hers.

So right now my side pictures are for the

Christmas Season yet there will be one more post

for Harvest ~Thanksgiving.

Possibly with out photos. :-(

Today I 'm popping in because its dark out already,

I have a glass of wine in hand .... I haven't thought

about supper and I don't know where to start to

put the cabin back to order. lol

A visit with Friends always makes

me feel Better.

I'm so Excited I await my package in the mail.

so I'm anxious to receive a bit of

Fall ...... made with Love by her Hand.

We are busy this week-end, packing away the out door

furniture ... we will leave the back deck set up for awhile longer,

because I love afternoon tea in the sun.

Plus on of our last trip to PA we found a

clay chiminea, and evenings sitting with

a glass of wine and a fire burning outdoors

is a slice of Heaven.

The pool will be put to rest for another year

(we're a little late with this chore)

as it has already started filling up with leaves.

I finished cleaning all my windows inside and out,

big job ...... glad that's done.

I can now place my window lights in ... love the look.

I'm not able to keep them in all year as my friends in PA do.

I have no real window stills so I have to rig them up.

The windows wont open when there in ..... so I place them

in now & turn them on through the end of January.

We are still pretty green here in CT but I know it wont be

long before we are a blaze with color. Ti's the Season of

PumPkins, Hay Rides, Warm Fires, Hearty Meals,

and Icouldn't be Happier.

Happy Tuesday Morning Friends

I'm in such a Happy Place ... my most favorite time

of year is upon us ...... the mornings have a chill in the

air, the nights are the same way ....... and during the day

when you step out in the sunshine you

warm through & through.

For me this is the most ideal weather ..... I love

pulling on a favorite sweater, and sipping

my tea while I peak for slight changes

in the trees that surround the cabin.

I just finished packing up the RV... we are heading back

out to Amish country in PA for a few days.

This trip I hope I come home with my Cinderella,

Peach & Green PumPkins ..... a nice primitive bucket,

barrel or crock would also be fun to find.

Love all the Goodies I stumble upon in PA !!

But mostly I love the time I get to spend

alone with my DH and the Memories I

bring back each and every visit.

Good Monday Morning ~~

Good Monday Morning ~~

The wind is blowing its dark & gray outside,

and I have a few PumPkins .... could it be

Fall is right around the corner. lol

DH & I went camping this weekend down

Lancaster way .... I had it in my head to come

home with a few PumPkins and that I did.

Bless my Husbands heart he drove, and drove till we

found a field where they were growing.

Not an easy task at this time of year,

I could have bought a cat, a dog, a goat, some tobacco

or a truck load of corn but pumpkins not so much.

(I was told they have had trouble with

pumpkins in years past so its not a sure crop.)

When we finally found a field ... we had to locate the

Farmer, thanks to some neighbors .. we found him

a couple of large fields away.

He was an Old Order Mennonite Gentlemen around forty.

He had seven children of varying ages ... four boys, and

three girls, the boys were out helping him in the fields.

We asked if there was a possibility if I could purchase

a few pumpkins and he graciously said yes.

We walked right out and he

let me pick the ones I wanted.

We talked for a good half an hour as he was most interested

in hearing about Connecticut.

These encounters make the trips

to PA so memorable for me.

If I believed in former lives ~~ I would say

I must have lived one or two of mine in Pennsylvania !! :-)

The rain we had yesterday, and the rain we are getting today is most

welcome we are in desperate need of it.

I hope where ever you are you are getting just what you Need.

Looking out my window here at the cabin the sky is dark & gray.

I just went out, and got Dukie so I know its damp out,

and the rain is falling steady.

A good day to be inside ditzing around .....where its warm,

cozy, and the soft flickering light of the candles

bounce all around the room.

I have a large pot of Lentil soup cooking on the stove,

later I will bake some cheesy biscuits to go along

with the hearty dinner.

Hubby will be so happy, he loves when he comes home,

and can smell good things cooking as he removes his

boots and makes his way into the cabin.

Bless them ... Most Men are pretty easy to Please.

Good Afternoon Friends ... I needed to make a
new post so when I signed in I didn't see my little
Irish Lass looking up at me. lol
I've been busy doing Spring clean up ... when will I
learn not to do three days in a row of yard work....my
back is in agony. I do it every year I'm so excited to
clean up and see what is sprouting....that I keep going
till I can hardly walk.
I forget I'm not as young as I use to be. :-)
I've also been busy Farming on my Farmville
Farm on Facebook, oh I swore I wouldn't get
addicted....but Yup I have !!

Facebook is a great way to keep in touch with my relatives
all around the country...love seeing my cousins grand kids,
and keeping in touch with my nieces & nephews.....but this
Farming has got me Hooked.
What a Pleasure to plant a field of Daffodils & see
them fully grown & ready to Harvest two days later. lol

Hope it is Sunny & Mild where ever you are, and that
you can get out in the fresh air & play in the dirt
if that is what you Desire.

We had our Traditional

Saint Patrick's Day Celebration

Saturday night.

Its much easier to get together on the weekend

due to the Grand-Girls school, and after school activities.

We enjoyed Ham, Cabbage, Potatoes,

& Irish Soda Bread for Dinner.

Lively Celtic Tunes played in the background.

Dessert was Shamrock Lolly Pops,

"Clover Pretzels"

Leprechaun Ice Cream Cake,

Apple Crisp,

Chocolate Dipped Fruit.

Its funny we enjoy this dinner so

much, and always comment why do

we only do this meal once a year.

Well maybe that's part of what makes its Special.

But no matter what we eat, its the

fact that we are all together that's

important....this year my daughter in-laws

parents where able to join us....fun for us,

and for the girls to have both sets of

Grand Parents around the table

to share, the food and the love.

as we Celebrate Saint Patrick's Day together again.

Hope everyone is well, & happy.
It is amazingly beautiful here at

the Cabin, the snow is falling in
big fat flakes...almost the size of

goose feathers.
Everything looks clean, white, and fresh.

I'm tucked in with a cup of tea,

some magazines,

and fresh baked cookies.

I know most of us are all longing

for Spring, but ~~

"It Is what It Is"... right now.

Our turn will come soon.

We are almost at the end of February so

we cant possibly have too much
longer to wait.

We have lots of birthdays in February,

we just celebrated two of my great nephews

Mike 15 & Nick 17, amazing kids !!

Paul will celebrate Thursday the 25th,

and my sister is a leap year baby.

There is no 29th this year so she

We are Blessed to have a large family so there are plenty

of get together's to celebrate .... which is always
fun, and helps make the month pass even faster.

Good Afternoon ~~
By the warmth of the wood stove I'm
filling small gift bags with Valentine Treats

for the GrandGirls.

Some stationary, home made candies,

stickers, tiny composition books, heart cookies, and tiny

little sewing books, that I purchased for each of them at

aunt daisy's last time I was in PA.

A few weeks prior the girls and I had a sewing circle,

we mended some of Pop's work shirts.

I showed them how to thread

a needle, knot the thread, and sew on a button,

we had such fun. I thought their own sewing book

would be something they would enjoy.

We received an evite for tonight to celebrate Valentine's Day
they are calling it 2nd Annual !!

Both sets of Grand Parents will head to their

house this afternoon,

and stay for dinner, dessert and wii bowling.

We don't know how long they will want to celebrate

this Sweet Holiday with us...but we will take

it for as long as we can.

Bless My Daughter In-Law & Son for

always including us.

Not that I think the Girls give them a choice. lol

Morning Friends ~~
Spent yesterday,working hard putting away
Christmas and setting the Cabin back to Simple Country.
I'm a little late and a little behind schedule...but I've been sick.
Got the dreaded cold ~~flu so I've been down and out since
New Years Day. You know the saying five days
coming, five days here, and five days going. I think
I'm on the last of five days going, Finger Crossed.

Been getting lots of rest, soup, plenty of juice, tea, and cold tablets.
DH has been a sweetie keeping me company, taking
care of keeping me hydrated, feed, in tissues & getting me
my med's on time. I'm just about feeling like I belong
back among the living, I still look awful...my nose is all
sore and red, my hair is a little dull,
and I'm a little weak...... but other than that all is good.

While I lazed around, with not much energy
I have been planning a
redo of our dreaded office in my head.
DH said he's up for a project so I best come
up with something fast. :-)
Years ago in one of the country magazines, not positive
which one but I think Country Decorating,
Country Accents, or Country Collectibles there was an article
and a picture of a cupboard some gentlemen made for his office,
it sorta looked like an apothecary with a fake drawer front...it
was very neat, and old looking and kept all office
necessities out of sight.
I've had this picture in my mind for years,
but cant find the magazine.
I've asked all my friends & family ... some remember it,
but don't have the issue.
Anyone out in Blog land remember this article ??
I think it may have been about eight or ten years ago.
Normally I can come with a drawing of something I
want built or can plan a room with no problem,
this time I'm stuck, so if you can .... Please........HELP !!!

Ring Out the Old ~~ Ring in the New ~~
We find ourselves at the end of another decade...seems like yesterday
we were approaching 2000.....with all the dire warnings.

The news media, and most of the talking heads were predicating there

was a real good possibility that all the computers around

the world would stop at the stroke of midnight

and, nothing would work as it should.
We were told to prepare, we were advised to make sure

each household had cash on hand, a supply of water,

wood, candles, batteries, gasoline, a pantry stocked with food,

everything to be able to sustain us at home till everything

was back up, and running.
Thankfully we ushered in the new year with no

problem at all, but we here at the Cabin were Alert & Ready. lol

It may be my girl scout background or

my Catholic school education....(Nuns)
but I am a the kind of girl who likes to prepare for the worst
(as best ya can) and, hope and, pray for the best.

My DH not so much....but he does appease me, Bless him.

Any way in what seems like the blink of an eye,

its ten years later, and we are here
ready to Ring in 2010.

My hope is that it comes in quietly

and without much ado.

And as soon as we open our eyes in the morning,

(cause we never make midnight anymore.)
We will greet it with a Grateful Happy Heart

eager to see what this New Year brings.

Happy Saturday Friends,

I'm home today snug as a bug in a rug.

cause its mighty cold out.

We had a couple of snow storms here

at the cabin this week.

Not real big storms like parts of the country had,

but enough snow to make everything look pretty.

And for the Mister

to plow & sand us and his accounts.These two photos, are from my front porch.

A "snow day" is almost as much fun as when I

was young...except now I stay in doors all day

to play, decorate, bake, & catch up with friends

who are not normally home.

I like alot of my Blogger Friends keep changing,

rearranging, and decorating right up to

the last minute, like the 24th lol

I'm either adding, taking way,

changing a spot, or refreshing.

(due to the use of natural materials)

But I love it....to me its another Joy of the Season.

This year I have used all old favorites,

I can hardly believe it but, I don't think I purchased

any new decorations....not even a new ornament.

Hmmm may have to rectify that. :-)

I'm mostly done with my baking...but that too will go

right up to the end.

I find you gals have some fabulous recipes that

once I read I feel a need to try.

Thank You all for sharing your new, and old recipes with us.

My cookies, are more my families favorites than

they are Christmas Cookies...I just make lots more of them

at this time of the year.

Money for alot of us .... is tighter this year

but the rest of our Blessings are in Abundance.

I'm hoping its the same for you,

that you are all in Good Health, Good Spirits,

and EnJoying the Simple Joys of the Season.

Love this time of the year.....especially from the cozy

comforts of the cabin.
We are enjoying ............... all the simple joys

and peace of the Christmas Season.
In the evening we sit back and enjoy the small white lights in
our windows, while the wood stove keeps us toasty warm,

and the fire is crackling in the fireplace.

We are Blessed to have a good, and hearty meal

grace our table each night.

There is also lots of baking taking place, so
the smells that fill the cabin are just wonderful.

Sights, Smells, Sounds, delights for all the senses.

I also get much joy from visiting my on-line Friends.

All the Blogs have a Christmas feel, everyone is talking about

their traditions, and sharing photos of their homes, & shops,

all decked out for the Season.

I enjoy reading their recipes, and the tiny bits of

their lives they choose to share with us.
On most Blogs .....

You can read and feel the smile in their words.

Its also a time to hear from treasured Friends and Relatives

that are parted by miles.....you get a sweet card, or

an updated news letter (I for one love receiving them)

and sometimes its a special phone call.

As the song said ......

"Don't Save it All for Christmas" .

Thanksgiving Gathering ~~

These days when most families find themselves scattered
all around the country......we are Blessed to be having
eighteen of our family members around our table.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We serve our traditional Thanksgiving dinner of
roast turkey, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, squash,

candied yams, shoepeg corn, stuffed mushrooms,

green bean casserole, coleslaw,

apple sauce, cranberry sauce, and hot rolls.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

We have been lovingly told many times.....you

can add any new dish you like but please do

not eliminate any old ones.

They all have their favorite.

We will bow our heads, as one of our family members

lead us in our prayer of Thanksgiving, we will then

proceed to our assigned seats.

The running joke is if you don't hand back

in your place card there
may not be a seat for you next year.

Well each year I get them all back, even the

little ones hand them in.

Some times worse for the wear. lol

I have much to be Thankful about so I will personally,

and quietly give thanks for my

family, & friends, the bounty that graces our table

each and every day of the year.
Our good health, and the fact that this will

be our 26th year here at the cabin,

cooking & serving this Holiday
dinner we both love .... side by side.

Good Monday Morning ~~

Good Morning ~~
Its Monday, the sun is shining, the wash in on,

and there is a large pot of tomato sauce
cooking on the stove. I still have to mix

roll & fry my meatballs, cant do them too soon or they

wont make the pot. :-)

My youngest son Tommy (26) is home from AZ

till after Thanksgiving and this was his request,

he eats like a bird so I'm always happy to make

something he truly likes. I also have plans to

bake a pie, chocolate cream.
Mondays are always my busiest day of the

week, and my most productive.

Just coming off a restful, and most enjoyable week-end
I'm ready to tackle the week.

This week-end we had a Beautiful Indian Summer Sunday
which allowed me to take a walk in the Woods.
I was able to collect more greens and more rosehips, this
has been a bumper year for the prickly red berries I love.

I was also able to scout out a few pine saplings
that I may bring home soon,
to finish off my Christmas decorating.

I have a few customers that have made
appointments to come into the "shop" this week,
so I am trying to make sure every thing
looks, and smells just right.

I don't have a lot of Christmas items, so I'm trying to
give the feel of Christmas in hopes they take home
an antique filled with greens or berries.
Or maybe a good smelling candle or at the very
least a "Good Feeling".
Hope all is well and you are having a
Wonderful Monday smack dab in the middle of November.

Making Christmas in shorts and a

tee shirt.lol It was very warm today,

so it was out with fall,
and on to the Christmas Season.

My front porch is done, and I have

sprinkled it here & there in the shop.

I spent a few days last week in PA visiting

my good friend Susan at her beautiful home.

We spent two days out & about visiting all

my favorite shops.
I happily soaked up all the

Christmas Spirit and Cheer

Yesterday was a Picture Perfect

Autumn Day here at the Cabin ~~ A True Gift.

We have not been able to travel this Fall no leaf peeking at all.

Fortunately we are Blessed to live in a Beautiful

part of the Country so we try to get out, and enjoy

what is right outside our front & back door.

All the magnificent fall colors on the trees

that surround the Cabin.

Inside we enjoy

Hearty Meals by the Fire

Warm Apple Pie fresh from the oven,

the soft glow of candles burning,

Pumpkins by the wagon full.

These are the Autumn gifts we are

thankful for each and every year.

But the number one gift we received in the Fall

was given to us 36 years ago

that was the birth of our oldest son
